Heh ... I know that feeling well ... ... Rarely does one encounter a textbook example in real life ... It does happen, just can't base your life around it happening every time.

There is a vast difference between inviting someone to speak at the DNC and choosing someone to be one's vice-president. No comparison at all. FYI, Obama's speech wasn't even originally televised on the major networks.

Obama was running for the U.S. Senate when he gave his speech at the DNC. There was nothing unusal about the Dems asking him to deliver the speech.

I didn't see the comment about going to 5 colleges...it must be have been at the beginning of the thread. That being said, attending 5 different colleges is a potential warning sign. Depending upon the circumstances, it could signal an inability to follow through with committments. Something which has also been revealed in her abandoment of the people of Alaska.

I'm not arguing that Palin is too dumb to be VP. I do think that she isn't even close to being knowledgeable enough. This has been demonstrated over and over...for example, just in the last week Palin revealed that she believed that there was a Department of Law in the White House that would protect the Pres from ethics complaints. That's just embarrassing! For all of Biden's flubs, even Republicans concede that he is extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects.

Well, I agree with your statement here. But my point is that (in regards to law school) the focus, concentration, and techniques that you are trained to employ are vital to becoming a successful lawyer. I'm currently attending law school, and I can tell you that very few profs care whether you have memorized dates, and the names of court cases. Most exams give you a complicated, fictituious fact pattern to analyze anyway. The important and irreplaceable part of law school is in the training of how to analyze legal situations, not to memorize names and dates.

In the last few years of med school and in residency, students begin to specialize. I'm not arguing that experience isn't important. I've grown up in a family of doctors, and I can tell you that they would all say that both the schooling and later experience are vital.

Regarding the Yale/5years/small law school topic: pretty much everyone at Yale is of the "prodigy" variety. It's flatly untrue that a person coming out of Yale will suffer for years at the bottom rungs of a law firm. You can pretty much write your own ticket if you are a Yale graduate. It's not that Yale provides that a hugely better education than smaller school...it's just that the average Yale student is vastly smarter than your average student at a small/low ranked school.

Heh ... Everytime I hear that argument the line from Men In Black comes to mind ...

Marine (IIRC) answers 'We are the best, of the best, of the best, sir' ... Shortly thereafter Will Smith gets selected as the best of the best of the best (i.e. final choice) ... Wil Smith, while walking with his new 'partner' begins to lay the groundwork, because he, Will Smith, was chosen as the best choice for the position ...

Anyways ... They get to the bottom of the elevator and it opens up and his new 'partner' say something to the affect of 'Just so you know, your experience thus far puts you at the bottom of the totem pole here' ... The line he uses is much better, but the concept remains the same.

You said you were in the "lord's service" so i assume you are of the Christian persuasion,i thought bearing false witness and slander was against Christian teachings,unless you know absolutely beyond the shadow of a doubt the things you said about Palin then it is bearing false witness and slander,if you don't subscribe to those Christian teachings then i guess they don't apply to you...being cynical in these times is a survival tactic,right or wrong...but it's best to wait until something has actualy been done and proven to have been done before saying anything.

If "intelligence" as it is being defined here were the answer to all of our problems then something is amiss...D.C is swimming with College dgrees of every description,same in business and finance..."the best and the brightest" we have been told for decades are at the helm steering us to a bright future....yeah well...like i said,something is wrong or perhaps intelligence is not exatly what we think it is and character is not the exclusive property of Harvard,Yale or any of the other so called institutions of "higher learning"...just because you know all the words,their origins,are skilled in the art of semantics and spell them correctly doesn't mean you are telling the truth or have any thing of value to say or anything to impart in the way of wisdom.

I'm a United Methodist minister, yes. I don't lie intentionally. I'm not sure where you think I've borne false witness? I've referred here to a number of things that have been reported about Sarah Palin; I assume most of us here have. We don't know her personally. I have referenced things that some who were involved in the campaign have shared with reporters; I have not made reference to the numerous ethics charges because there's been a lot of reporting that some of those charges may be spurious and in any case, she is innocent until proven guilty. However, she was accused of having her children travel on the state's accounts, and she reimbursed the state for that. I assume that was a de facto admission that she had misused funds (after she'd denied it) and was making reparations.
In my comments, I was primarily referring to the recent Vanity Fair piece on Sarah Palin, and to other reports referencing what former McCain staffers have had to say.

Funny ... I just glanced the the VF piece on Palin ... I can't recall the last time I had read so much conjecture and inference ... I didn't think about it till just now ... But I am betting I can replace nearly every instance with a particular member on the D-team. It reads as a left-leaning opinion piece. Which in turn doesn't strike me as odd thatthe suppositions and results show someone from the R-team in a negative light.
