Obama was not plucked by the Dems. He was just too impressive for anyone to miss & had to be taken notice of. He had a wave of momentum coming from his days in Illinois (even before public office) & it has never slowed. The Dems just got out of the way of that wave & let him ride that momentum.

It is rare that someone can sustain that type of momentum & not be knocked off track slightly along the way.

I didn't ... and you didn't effectively respond. Palin was never seriously considered a leader in her own party, as they've demonstrated by repeatedly snubbing her in discussions of whom would carry the banner of the party into the future.

She had little merit as a vice-presidential candidate, demonstrated during her campaign ... she was chosen/used by her party as a means of attempting to maintain the interest of their religious base and act as a puppet otherwise. And that's all she did.

Hey TP - Actually that is incorrect about Palin not being considered a leader in her own party.

I am not sure why you have that impression. I have a completely opposite impression. In fact, I believe why she resigned as Governor is actually so she can make some money as a speaker for campainging Republicans. She is probably the leading Republican in actually filling the seats at rallies. She has a way about her that really touches people.

...not to mention that Michael Steele just said today that Palin running in 2012 is "off the table".

She's a popular speaker with conservatives, and I think Lizzie is correct that she can be an effective fundraiser. The Daily Beast blog has a piece up about how much more money she can make speaking as opposed to being governor. She has a large family and obviously that would be tempting. But she isn't well educated enough to be President. From what I've read, she more or less refused to study a number of things given to her during the '08 campaign. This may have been part of why Steele made the statement he did, though he said something more general about her "getting her house in order".

You've got to be kidding . Do you seriously think that Obama was "plucked" by the Democrats, and that this was done to "appease" minorities?

You might not like Obama, but it's pretty clear that he is largely a self-made man who used his own natural charisma, talent, and hard work to catapult himself into the national scene.
