So far, I have only been Sky Diving in Eloy, AZ. I have been thinking about bungee jumping. What are some good ideas of other crazy fun stuff to do?

Hi,


Was your skydiving tandem or AFF? If you have not done AFF, you need to!! I am working on Level 4 now myself. I am going to New Zealand in Feb 2009 and plan to bungee jump from the bridge where it all began. While there, I also plan to learn to climb glaciers with an ice pick and crampons, the whole thing.


If you want a rush that almost equals skydiving, go cage diving with Great Whites. Simply amazing!!!! I dis so off the coast of Cape Town 2 years ago. On the smae trip went on safari in Botswana, camping in a tent. When you look out the thin screen "windows" you see all sorts of fun and scary animals walking around all night.


Please tell me about your adrenaline junkie activities!! I am also seeking new ideas!

My jump was tandem, it was the first time I have gone. I would love to get to the point where I can go solo. I have actually heard that cage diving was extremely fun to do. Good luck in New Zealand, my brother went there a couple years back, it is a beautiful country.

Yourdiscussion inspired me to join the Advice side of eH


I did the full day glacier climb in NZ, and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Hope you have more than one guide - we didn't - and that it doesn't rain the day before you go up (the rain means they have to recut all the paths and steps as you go along). Watch out for the fissures - nothing like knowing you can commit homicide just by being clumsy!


I've been interested in skydiving for a while now. Any tips on what I should look for in a first time jump?


In terms of your next thrill, I would suggest "rap jumping" as they call it in Oz. Forward repelling or inreal termsrunning down the side of a gorge/mountain face first. Quite the heart thumper - especially when you have climb back up the edifice by yourself.

Hi, I had a terrible experience skydiving. On my 3rd jump (AFF) when it came time to pull the chute I lost control and started spinning. Nothing I tried to do could fix it. I had a guy beside me trying to help me regain control and he couldn't help either. Finally he had to bail on me so it was up to me to live. By some miracle I managed to flip myself back over and stop spinning at 2000 ft. My chute opened and I lived but I landed downwind and cracked my tailbone. To top it all off, someone died that day on the next load of people that went up. It was on the news and everything. I'm never skydiving again.

Wow, I think that is a very un-typical experience... Where was this at? I will make a mental note never to go there.

Well I am glad I brought you over to the good side of EH! I will have to try "rap jumping". That sounds pretty intense, but a lot of fun too!

Well, I don't blame this actual drop zone for what happened to me or the unfortunate soul who lost their life. The person who died had several solo jumps under their belt. To this day it's still a mystery as to why it happened. All I can say for myself is that I bit off more than I could chew by never doing a tandem jump and having all 3 of my jumps be AFF. Not to mention the fact that on this particular jump, my 3rd, I requested that I have no radio contact with the professionals on the ground to guide me in to a safe landing. Sometimes I have to learn things the hard way. I guess skydiving can be fun for alot of people, I just don't think it's for me anymore. But I highly recommend doing a tandem jump your first time.

Hey everyone, I've been pondering skydiving since last year...the summer's almost over and I'd like to do it while it's still warm. Any suggestions on a venue or particular group where I can get a good experience for my money? I'm in D.C. Thanks.

I have a few 'newbie' questions and hope some of you can help out.
  1. What does it cost to get started? Or to get trained and make a jump
  2. What type of facility/training options should be I go to as a beginner?
  3. Should I go to one that offers half day on the ground trainingn first or just go for one with little or no training and they jump wihit you tandem?


I am in arizona, the phoenix/chander area. Any suggestions on a good place to go?
