There have been cats in my world my entire life, and that's not going to end for any potential dating partner. My mom was a professional breeder of pedigreed show cats (Himalayans) and we always had a house full of cats. At one time I counted 50 cats and kittens. But, believe it or not, the house did not smell. There were two special rooms for the majority of the cats, the males were kept separated, the mama cats had their special places, and EVERYTHING was cleaned daily (floors scrubbed, pans and water bowls cleaned, etc.)

Right now I have two cats. I will probably always have two cats. I wouldn't mind more, but two is enough.

My profile says up front that I have two kids and two cats and I'm a package deal. In a different part it says I'm not a crazy cat lady, but I'm loyal to my loyal pets. If you have an allergy, a phobia, or dislike of cats, sorry, but we're not a match.

I don't mind dogs, but am not particularly fond of them either. I will NOT date anyone who feels the need to own a "bully breed" dog.

I have friends with horses, and I know they require a great deal of time and expense... they become part of your lifestyle. I like horses but don't see my lifestyle including someone with horses, much the same as I like an occasional motorcycle ride, but my lifestyle will not find me being a "biker babe."

If I see any mention of furry pets on a profile, I'll be more inclined to close it. Pet dander poses problems for me. I'm normally a baritone, but after spending a few hours in a house with a cat, I've been known to turn into a bass. Since I would never force a match to make a choice between their pets and me, it's better to just not get started in the first place.

If a person closes on you because you mention your pets, fantastic. That is a great screening tool. One less person to have to try to figure out. I personally find it a plus when a guy mentions his pets and/or children in his profile. I know that this is a person who is able and willing to commit to relationships that are not always ideal. Kids and pets can be pesky, annoying at times, messy, you name it. But the love they have to share is worth every bit of the inconvenience, and I dont think I would be happy with someone who cared more about their couch or car than another living being.

I don't close out anybody for owning any pet, I'm a cat owner myself, and don't mind dogs. I was kind of shocked to see almost 30% of men would close someone out at the mention of cat(s). What gives, guys? I understand if you are allergic, because I have fairly severe allergys in the fall to certain weeds. I don't think 30% of people are allergic to cats, however.

because of the cat/single woman sterotype, which is stupid. only really insecure men would be scared of a cat, mostly because cats and the women who own them can see though bull$hit. you have to prove yourself to a cat- dogs will love anyone that pets them and gives them food. cats will just go out and kill something if you don't feed them. and even sometimes if you do, just for fun.

How about people who think all guys who own cats must be gay? :lol:

Although I'm a cat lover, more than two cats in a household would raise a red flag. Two cats can learn to get along and be companions to each other. I've found that more than that creates discord among the critters. Any cat owner who isn't sensitive to a cat's need for personal space probably has issues I'd rather not be exposed to.

I like cats. I once owned 5, plus a dog.

But I'm not on eHarmony to be the savior of Little Edie Beale. If it's that extreme on the surface, it's no going to be better underneath is it?

Who cares what they think? Besides I've found many of those kind of "tough" men fall the quickest in a boxing ring.
