Please don't even get me started on the selection of couches, let alone the issues...

Wow... just wow.

I read more than I post, and I've seen absurd comments in some of your other posts, but I just couldn't walk away from this one.

IcecreamMoon, You implied by your reference to couches above, that you spend some time on one... I hope a lot of time.

I'm not sure what to think of that book. The heartbroken side of me wants to agree with it 100%, because I definitely remember when my ex turned on her waterworks and I crumbled. Instantly. And I remember instances early on when she used the promise of sex to get me to stay over (how I resisted, I don't know...).

While I want to believe that all people are innately good people who don't go out of their way to manipulate and use others, I have to accept the fact that some people are really ****ed up.

well, since the divorce rate sky-rocketed after sexual liberation, maybe we ought to go back to this old system.

Yes, but since quite a few things have happened in the interim, unless you can show a direct link from liberation to divorce, I think I'll stay right here.

Okay, I'll be honest. Even if you provide a direct link, you couldn't drag me back (kicking and screaming all the while) to the old system. If I have to choose between my personal freedom and societies divorce rate, I'll take freedom and independence.

-----------

I really don't care to comment on most of the notions in the op (Are these your thoughts or did you copy this from an article/review?), but the idea that women and young girls are plotting to keep men down is interesting.

I will say I've spent a lot of time around mothers and children during the volunteer work that I've done and I have never once seen a mother tell her boy that it's not okay to cry. I believe that particular tradition may be passed down from men.

*please note that "interesting" does not always imply positive connotations.

Freedom is oftentimes more difficult to handle than being controlled. Still, in the long run it's better.

Selecting couches always gives me issues, but moving them is far more traumatizing.

hehe.

i think the easy to marry, easy to divorce laws we have now are part of the liberation directly. that is, it was badly stated on my part to say sexual liberation led to higher divorce rates.

it's an interesting question.

the idea that women intentionally manipulated men may or may not be so. it could be that women were manipulated into manipulating men by the way society trained them. and then you get to the fact that children are by their nature not free; adults contribute much to their formation of a necessity. so then the question is not one of freedom, but how to form the children.

Many people do raise their children to conform rather than to think for themselves.
