We all talk to random strangers and it is a little odd talking to one by phone, but hopefully you've learned enough through email to relieve the creepiness factor. Good luck!
Random stranger talk I can handle. It's the context that is odd here.

ok, similar situation, he gave me his number to call, when i was ready, no rush. so i waited days, until a week day, in the middle of the day, sure he would be at work. blocked my #, called, expecting voice mail, message, something, but..... he answered!!! AAAAAHHHHGG!!
Duh, cel #, kept it on him at work, carp!!! Rolled with it, stated who I was, let him pick it up from there. awkward? yes. Worth it? yes

If you're that nervous about it, ask him to call you. He is probably just as nervous as you are. Think about what you have in common. Good luck!
