After six months of searching, I think I may have found a great guy to date. We've gone on two dates, and will be going on a third soon. I will refer to him as Mr. Wonderful.

Well, Mr. Wonderful has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks.
Given that we haven't been dating for very long, I need help deciding what would be an appropriate birthday gift/date (i.e., What would you guys out there on the board appreciate as a birthday gift from a girl that you have only being dating for a short amount of time?).

One factor I'd say is to keep it relatively inexpensive. Going more on the expensive side might seem a little inappropriate.

Anything specific that you could suggest? I'm looking for ideas on what men like.

You've only been on two dates, so you don't exactly know even if you'll be seeing this person in two weeks.

As for a gift, one really needs to know more information about the person you're dating - besides that he's wonderful.

A non-commital card and some kind of beverage or food item that he appears to enjoy should do. And if he wants to celebrate his birthday with you, take a turn picking up the tab.

Something that indicates you've been paying attention to what he's interested in, what he likes. Golfer? special golf balls. Surfer? Sex wax. (it's a brand name for surfboard wax). Dogs? A fun unique dog toy.

Something that indicates you feel romantic towards him? Kahlil Gibran is an old stand-by poetry book. (loaf of bread, jug of wine, thou etc).

Something the 2 of you can enjoy together? Tickets to something. Dinner at a nice restaurant. A trip to the zoo.

Something no one else could give him? A home-made thing ... beautiful cake, a small painting, etc.

Have fun figuring it out! How nice to have someone to get excited about gifting to!

Consider this:
While women put a lot of thought into birthdays and getting just the right gifts, guys for the most part, don't care in the least about their own birthdays, or gifts. Birthdays just aren't that important to guys, and he surely won't expect a gift at this early stage.

But since you do want to let him know you remembered, and since the relationship is so new, how about buying him dinner for his birthday. Or maybe make him a dinner at home. And of course, a funny birthday card.

It's not the $$ is the thought that counts. I like wine, so a nice bottle to go with a nice dinner would do it for me (nothing expensive...I'd be impressed if you spend $20 since most everyday bottle is about $8-10).

If it only been our third date, just pay for the dinner, and I'll be happy lol.
