now remember that is an average my friend. Most often, I buy a new shirt and maybe a necklace or a pair of earrings. I usually have a go-to pair of jeans and sometimes shoes. I may purchase new shoes if I didn't already have something (this happens a lot if its during a change of season). Occasionally, a pair of jeans or a dress.

If neccessary, depending on my supply, new lipstick or eyeshadow may be called for.

It really depends on what I have and what I would like to have new to go for the certain occasion or the look I am wanting that particular time or date, and what I have and what I have that is needing replacement at the time. Things I might put off but since I have a date, I purchase sooner.

nails, I don't really do anything. I don't get mani's and pedi's except for real special occasions. Though I DO recall actually formulating my own special color for that wedding with that guy...lol and doing my own nails that one time. I mean, yeah, I did my own mixing...to go perfectly with my dress.

I know we don't HAVE to do this, but no one has to do anything when it comes to dating. I like to put effort into my appearance. But, there isn't much incentive to do it on a daily basis if I'm just going to work and then home alone. If I have a date, I'm going to make an effort, and probably buy something new since there is an occasion to do so (or an excuse).

This tends to be how I shop. the other way I acquire new clothes is if I am going on vacation. I don't shop a whole lot just for the heck of it.

so to the person who asked don't I already have clothes? yes, a lot actually after all. but, I tend to acquire clothes because I shop for occasions...not the other way around. I don't shop hoping for an occasion.

This actually tends to be cheaper for me.

And I have a lot of basic boring work clothes...yeah, I have clothes. But not all of my clothes are date worthy.

Is anyone really that utilitarian? geez...

I really dont keep count, or it doesnt really matter to me what I spent on my date...all I know is that I care that they had a good time, even if we didnt click. I enjoy paying for things,making sure people are having a good time and,it lets me into what kind of person my date is. But thats me, simple and laid back.

Oh cmon admit it a date is just an excuse to shop You could show up in a tshirt with holes in it and us lonely guys out there wouldn't complain.

Yes and No. No woman (or man) with any pride would show up that way.

And yes, I enjoy (sometimes...sometimes more trouble that it feels like its worth) getting dressed up for a date. Just as some men Im sure enjoy taking a lady out for a date.

You know, some of us take pride in those little things and its just what we do....nothing to complain about until someone describes how they have it so much worse than the other sex....its all in how much effort you want to put forth....and some want to put forth none and some more. I guess. something like that.

Not complain, no, never that. But, there are some of those oddball guys out there.

Maybe these guys, these oddballs don’t have a single clue how long it took. Probably not. The shaving, the washing, the makeup scrutinized in the mirror, the hair so exactingly placed. How long it took to find the dress that was *just right.* The shoes that went with the dress… or, the dress that went with the *shoes.* The cost, both in money and in time- all just another part of the mystery that is woman.

Setting all of that aside, knowing nothing at all of what went into it, knowing that at heart, this probably is for her first and foremost (especially on the first few dates)- there is a difference. These oddball guys, they look at this very fine, very *beautiful* woman and just go… wow. The kind of "wow" you wouldn’t get with a ratty old tee shirt and stained jeans. The kind of wow that says "this is so much more than I was expecting." I think women like to get that "wow" reaction.

And honestly, guys, appearance matters- to both sexes. How you look, how other people react to how you look, and how *you* think you look have an impact on your confidence level. Women have a lot better understanding of this than we do. While we’re bumbling about with high-school questions of "button down, or not?" they’re in the graduate level classes of what scent to add to the ensemble.

So ladies, there are some guys out there that have an inkling of it. And on behalf of all such men, we *bloody* well appreciate it. Walking into a room where heads turn and all the male patrons turn green with envy gives us the mega-jollies. I think it cannot be overstated that we do love the female form- it is a delight to all the senses. Go ahead. Get all dressed up to the nines. I, for one, *love* it.

Actually I like cp30's way of thinking. Instead of spending her saturday shopping for clothes just to stock the closet she shops for special occasions. And guys, don't tell me you have never bought a new shirt for a date? I have on a few occasions because I needed a new shirt anyways. Plus it it is easier to buy a new shirt than iron an old one (*kidding* I know how to use an iron).

I like to buy a new dress or something fun. It makes me feel better about myself and boosts my self confidence.

For a first meeting, I wear something I've already got that looks nice on me. I'm not going to invest a bunch of money on an outfit to meet someone I may never see again.

But for a date with someone I like, I'm with you...I like to get dolled up and new clothes always provide that extra boost :-)

And in response to someone else's comment here - I always offer to split the dinner bill, pay for gas, etc.
