I think you're right that for you to go to a class or anything interest related JUST to meet someone is a bad idea. But at the same time, i think its okay for you to try a class or gathering to see if you like something if a good idea. Otherwise, many times you don't know if you would be interested or not.

I know this is coming from someone who has somebody in their life, but meeting someone should be a bonus in that environment, not the goal. When i was single, I saw all these single volunteer groups and I didn't bother with it because, not to be mean, but I didn't really care. I felt like it would be hypocritical to join up to meet someone, and not really care about the work I was doing. Also, my therapist at the time suggested that I join toastmaster to meet people and at the same time, learn how to speak publicly. I turned that idea down because I really didn't care to learn and although I did want to meet people, I could care less about the subject.

One of the things that I love about Eh (usually rant about what I hate!) is the buffet of men they present me with to date. And with each of these men has come a world of interesting things to learn about, things that enrich me and give me a bigger world. Each guy has new and wonderful talents and interests and so far most have shared those with me. Big shout out to them all!!!

Does downloading from sites geared to "mature sophisticated gentlemen" count as a hobby? Probably not. LOL

I suspect that's not the real target audience. Still, anything you pursue vigorously due to interest or pleasure probably constitutes a hobby. lol

Whoever said joining a class or something along those lines just to meet someone is creepy had it bang on. However, meeting someone can be a nice bonus to picking up a hobby.

I don't think downloading pronography is a hobby I'd mention on a first date, not that I do that of course. Haven't you people heard of streaming video?

Jayjay,
To me you're all beautiful pieces of meat: tender steaks, juicy burgers, finger licking good ribs, plump sausages............. now I'm hungry and hot, where's the number for that pizza place with the hot old guy that delivers?
